Kevin Blake wins major HWPA award!

We are delighted to announce that former Rockwell student Kevin Blake (Class of 2003) has recently won the Specialist Writer of the Year Award at the Horserace Writers' and Photographers' Association Derby Awards, held Monday December 2nd. We are immensely proud of Kevin and his work, and we are overjoyed to see his work recognised at such a high level.

Kevin is both the first ever Irish-based recipient of a HWPA award, and also the first to ever win based on solely-online published material. Additionally, Kevin is the second writer to ever have been nominated for two categories, in over 50 years of awards, having also been nominated for Racing Writer of the Year, which he was also nominated for in 2016.

Kevin, in addition to being a tremendously talented writer, is also a regular face around the extended campus, often coming in for an evening stroll around the lake. Kevin has also been an active participant in the Rockwell Community, helping to host an event in 2018 that helped to raise funds for the new Pavilion. We here at the union are incredibly proud to see such a stalwart of the community get his due, and we wish Kevin all the best in future. No doubt, we shall be seeing his name again at the HWPA awards, and beyond!
