Stephen Jameson Class of 1983 RIP

It is with great sadness that we learned over the last few days a fellow school friend of ours was suddenly taken, Jamo sadly passed away unexpectedly on Thursday 18th of September.

Jamo was originally from Cavan and spent five years boarding up to completing his leaving certificate in 1983, he was always a tall fit chap who played rugby from the day he arrived to the day he left. After completing Rockwell he moved to study in Dublin and joined Monkstown FC following his brother David’s path. After a couple of seasons he switched clubs joining St Mary’s College RFC in Templeville Road. In his first season with Mary’s he was called up to line out for Connacht, he played with Connacht dominating the 2nd row for four seasons from  1989 to 1995 while still lining out for St Mary’s.

Jamo moved to Leinster in 1995 and in the 1996/97 season he started in 7 Heineken Cup fixtures with a full 80 minutes in each match, he was awarded players player of the year that same season. All this while still lining out for Mary’s, he amassed something very special here where recorded an unheard of record of 85 consecutive starts in the All Ireland League. He was also Mary’s club 1XV captain from 92 to 94, in 1999  at the age of 35 he decided to call it a day on his rugby career unfortunately retiring due to injury.
